We are working on a new promotional piece at PCG, the concept has been titled “Ink runs through our veins”. The photos are in and it’s time to edit! Thanks again to the super talented Doug Burg for making it out on such short notice to help us out! Here is a before/after sample to show you what we’re trying to accomplish:

Cut Down the List Making

This isn’t my New Year’s resolution post (still finishing that one up) – rather a public declaration that I am addicted to list making, and I know I have a problem. It’s not that I’m a terrible list maker, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I am too good at making lists, so good in fact that I spend more time making these great lists than working on the tasks on the lists. So I’m trying a new approach this week which involves no list (unless it’s grocery list from my wife, God knows I don’t want to screw that list up ~~again~~) and winging it. Where has the creativity gone?

I’m both frustrated and confused…constantly surrounded by inspiration and I’m as uncreative as I’ve ever been. Not enough dreaming and hoping. Probably too much worry and fear.

I want a home office…

I want a home bigger home office…not your typical home office, but one with cool gadgets, one entire wall that is a whiteboard, a punching bag and mini-bar. Ok, let’s scratch the mini-bar, God knows that would be a bad idea.

The Civil Wars

Another musical discovery that I’m sure is more of a “where the hell have you been”moment than a discovery, but still. If you haven’t heard of The Civil Wars, like I hadn’t, go to their website and check them out (http://thecivilwars.com). Not only do John and Joy look like they belong on the silver screen, but they make music with beautiful harmonies. Rather than doing a terrible write up about them, in which I would probably compare the looks of John to Johnny Depp (seriously take a look at their pictures) I’ll just post another YouTube video and let you eat your heart out.

Something Beautiful

The Counting Crows were close, but instead of wanting something beautiful I want to create something beautiful.

A week ago I was lucky enough to get a tour of an old run down building in Sioux City. On the wall near the entrance were remnants of what appeared to be a great painting. I was blown away with what I saw, which was apparent neglect of something beautiful.

Is it the over saturation of images and media that drives this numbness? I’d like to know so I can be sure to recognize and cherish all of the beauty life has to offer.

The Mighty Short Bus

The Mighty Short Bus (MSB) rocked Friday night, Not only are they all talented musicians, they’re all stellar guys. Frank and the boys played 3 great sets for a good sized crowd at the Skyline. I was impressed with the way MSB had their song choice arranged, building momentum and capitalizing on the crowds applause and rolling songs seamlessly into one another.

After the show with a little drink and party I came to the same point that I despise each and every show like that: the end of the night. In my mind (after several drinks of course) I feel like the night should never end. In reality, I have a wife and kids at home who will need me to be functioning the next morning. Maybe that’s what I love so much about live music, the connection between worlds. We’re all the same…people I mean. But what we choose to do with our lives can be very very different.

Still haven’t made my resolution…

I have a bunch of post drafts here at chasestockton.com that never make it live. I start writing something, get side-tracked or lose interest. It’s ironic how many things in my life are just like that, ideas or thoughts or ambitions that never amount to anything. Here’s a funny example from the website, I started writing a post on January 12th for my New Year’s resolution post and didn’t make it very far!

Maybe I shouldn’t allow myself to it ‘Save Draft’ here at my website, or for that matter my life. The ability to back out might be blocking everything.

California Bar Logo Roughs

As a fun little side project, I’m working on creating a new logo for my beloved California Bar in Omaha, NE! This joint played home to myself, my wife and several friends over a span of 6 years while I lived in Omaha. Say what you want to say about a bar on north 33rd in Omaha, but this place showed me that regardless of location and upbringing…good people ARE good people. There were several nights spent with too much blackberry brandy, smoke and all the other amenities. You see, my wife lived only a few blocks from the joint as a teenager and was used to the atmosphere. Myself, being a goody from a different style of living explored a world that was semi-dangerous but 100% real. Occasionally corners could be found frequented by dealers and bangers alike, but also stories and friendships that are much deeper than the stereotype built by movies and the news. This place showed respect and compassion, hardship and love – all in a city block.

Google+…is anyone out there?

I’ve had a Google+ account for a month or so and every time I check and visit my account page, nothing is happening. Does anyone out there use Google+? I thought it was going to ‘replace’ Facebook. Maybe I just don’t know what I’m doing. Thoughts?
